So, those of you who know me well, know that I am a major environmentalist. Needless to say, I was very irritated when I found out they tried to pass a regulation allowing drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as a rider on a bill that was to give the necessary funding to continue our military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan. (Remember Afghanistan? Do not forget Afghanistan, best beloved.) My stance on the war notwithstanding, I was very irritated that they would try that dirty trick to slip this by the public, not to mention congress.
Well, no one fell for it. Check this out.
Whoot!
Does this mean the fight is over? Not in the least. We have a long way to go before our Arctic Refuge will be safe from drilling. We need to solve our almost complete dependence on nonrenewable resources for our heat/fueling needs. And that, my friends, will be a long, hard fight in and of itself. However, any victory is a great joy, especially in a non-conservative, right-leaning congress. (No, I do not consider the current Republican agenda conservative.)
All rants aside, one more sneaky trick defeated! I say again, WHOOT!
